temporary hiatus
SD has gone to SJ for 5 weeks and has taken the laptop with him, hence no internet at home for the next little while. because of that i will not be blogging very much, if at all, since it's a lot harder to do at work (than say, previously...)
a few notes:
- RIP Ed Yeung... even though we haven't connected in the last couple years, the thought that he's gone is quite shocking.
- my boyfriend may or may not be homeless in SJ, will know tonight.
- i've managed to keep off at least half of the weight i lost on the cleanse.
- go canucks go.
- i like my job. except for the fact that people keep using my personal mug. it was gone for several weeks and someone mentioned that perhaps it might be upstairs on the 3rd floor. i went upstairs to check, and there it was! so it was a joyous afternoon for me. then 2 days later it was gone again, found it on the marketing director's desk when i came in to her office for a meeting. not impressed... but will not comment on her on my blog.
- oh, another funny thing that happened on friday, i had a client fax me her contract and she was having such a hard time sending it through, she couldn't figure out what the problem was until she checked the number with me. "Is your number 604-273-####?" Er, no... and tried to figure out where on earth she got that number from, then realized she had been faxing herself. no further comment.

Public transit
Is it bad that I want to have the freedom to drive my car to work every day? I mean, I know it's bad for the environment, but honestly, sometimes I am so sick of people on the bus and the time it takes to walk from home to bus stop to work and wait for the bus... it's really time consuming. I could drive to work in half the time. Except without the seniority, I don't have a parking space, and without the parking space, I am forced to find street parking 5 blocks away or pay $5/day in a lot. Either way, screwed.
It's not really that bad. I get on near the beginning of the line so am almost always guaranteed a seat. However I have always been antsy about sitting near the exit doors so I can get out at my stop. My newest peeve about public transit today is PEOPLE THAT BLOCK THE BACK DOOR whilst standing. Like geez. They stand in front of the back door all the way from 33rd to Main St. Station completely oblivious that people need to get off by that back door. Hellooooo!
Sometimes I just want to yell at people on the bus. The driver kindly asked everyone to take their backpacks off to save room - why aren't you doing this??! Did you not hear it over the loudspeaker? Do you not understand English? Is that iPod too loud? Do you not have any regard for anyone at all????
My other pet peeve is people who stand in front of empty seats. Ok I can understand if you are getting off at the next couple of stops, as I have done… but honestly. A full bus, with one seat available… there is probably someone on the bus who would like to sit down. Have a seat! Take a load off! I mean I can understand if the seat is not ‘habitable’ in the sense that there is water on it or something…
I drove to work two days in a row this week for other reasons than being p’d off at the transit system and I started to wonder if the hassle of finding parking every morning and then having to walk 4-6 blocks from that parking space was worth the trouble than having to deal with idiots on the bus.
And it only took 2 months to get to this point. I know of others who have started to get peeved off with the transit system in less time.

Day 4, Wild Rose Cleanse
Had some major cramps last night after going to the bathroom which I attribute to this cleanse, and not to colitis, which I have had in recurring stages through my 20's. Here's hoping it's the former, and not the latter. I also had a headache, but not sure if that's attributed to the detox.
It's not much fun when I can't have bread, or anything with a lot of sugar/yeast/flour in it. But I am trooping along so far. Lots of temptations abound - yesterday we went to Granville Island, enough said - but I have so far been able to manage. Won'tpower! Yes!
So last night we were supposed to have grilled swordfish for dinner... hence the reason for the trip to GI... however none of the fish shops had it in stock. I had heard from my colleague at work that marlin is a similar fish in taste and texture, so we forked out the $13.99/lb for that and bought just under 2 lb - 3 steaks. Turns out we bought too much for none of us could finish our steaks. (They were about 7 inches long and about 3 inches wide...). Yeah, so guess what's for dinner tonight!!!
Other than that, kinda tired. Am supposed to do Ultimate Circuit class at FW tomorrow with workmates like last week - killer class but fun. Generally I hate FW classes but this one was less a class, more of a group workout - if that explains it at all. One annoying thing about it, which is why I generally hate FW classes - the music SUCKS. How hard is it to burn a CD of current music? Seriously? There is much more relevant techno-driven drivel nowadays than there was 10 years ago, yet they practically insist on the old stuff... sped up of course. Ergh.

Following the trends by taking a Cleanse...
So my first day of the cleanse has gone by without incident… and there is a LOT to tempt me to cheat, especially at work – there are always goodies to share. I had a lettuce wrap sandwich yesterday for lunch that was really filling! (E.g. the lettuce took place of the bread). For dinner I had lemon-pepper pork chops. I did find that I was still a bit hungry after dinner but had a fruit smoothie to take off the edge. The pills aren't so bad as I swallow them pretty quickly and then take a shot of the drops in water... which tastes disgusting but I eat something right after so that kills the taste. So far, so good.
Usually when I go to bed I wake up at least once due to restlessness or needing to go to the bathroom. To my recollection, I slept through the night! Was pretty impressed with that.
I had porridge (oatmeal) for breakfast, with soy milk. And cinnamon. When I got to work I had black coffee and it takes some getting used to. It’s nicer when it is hot, but now it has cooled down and is yecky. I did go to the washroom this morning and spent more time in there than usual, so the pills must be working.
This is my meal plan for the next 2 weeks… should be interesting!

I know I am cheating in two places – one, where mangoes are concerned (can’t have tropical fruit) but my cousin brought home 50 mangoes for us from the Philippines. The other part is where soy milk is involved… I accidentally bought flavoured soy milk not thinking it had extra sugars in it… but oh well… at least it is still soy and not dairy. Anywho. To be continued…
